Vanessa in a moment of desesperation agrees to help Chuck with a scheme having to do with Blair and Nate. Rufus tries to figure out how to cover Dan's Yale tuition, when he learns that Dan will not receive financial aid.
WORDS & EXPRESSIONS
1.
Serena: What was that?
Blair: Dorota has a cold. Dorota,I told you not to use your handkerchief at the table. It's disgusting.
Serena: Oh, it sounded like a car horn. It must have been on my end.
It must have been on my end:
2.
Rufus: Look at us. Everything's working out. You're in Yale and Jenny might actually make it to 16.
Dan: That was a little touch-and-go there for a while.
Jenny: Yes, but I still have 24 hours to mess up, so...
I made it.
touch-and-go: Dangerous and uncertain in nature or outcome; precarious; delicate.
mess up: to spoil something, or do something badly,
3.
Serena: Poppy. Oh, my gosh.
Poppy: Oh, it's so good to see you. I was beginning to think we weren't running in the same circles anymore. It's been so long.
running in the same circles:
4.
Poppy: Well, it sounds like everything's exactly the same as it was last time I saw you. Makes catching up easier, though, right?
Serena: Yeah. I'm throwing a party this weekend.
Poppy: Really? Oh, what's the occasion? Not that you need one.
catch up: To bring (another) up to date; brief.
what’s the occasion:
not that you need one: 当然你也不一定需要理由,not that表示“倒不是……”
5.
Chuck: So if you'll excuse me...
Eric: Does this feel like a sitcom to anybody else?
Dan: It feels like a reality show.
Chuck: Good. So I can vote you off.
So if you'll excuse me:
vote you off: 我可以把你选出局了。
6.
Dan was denied financial aid at Yale. Funds are limited, and these days, there are a lot of other students that need it more than we do.
7.
Serena: Thanks for meeting me.
Poppy: After I saw you this morning, I felt kind of terrible.
Serena: I'm in a rut, aren't I?
Poppy: Yeah. Well, a girl like you should be on the arm of a designer at the costume ball one day and yachting around the Maldives the next, not making up and breaking up with the same high school boy and feuding with your frenemy.
in a rut: in a type of boring habitual behavior,
Someone who is both friend and enemy, a relationship that is both mutually beneficial or dependent while being competitive, fraught with risk and mistrust.
