Freak weather causes temporary power outage, fires in Houston

Strong winds and lightning overnight were blamed for power outage and multiple sporadic fires in Houston, the U.S. state of Texas, with tens of thousands of homes being affected. Strong storms swept through the Houston area Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, bringing with them hail, lightning and strong winds. At the height of the storms, more than 45,000 customers of energy delivery company, CenterPoint Energy, lost power, according to the local TV channel ABC13.

A series of fires were also caused by the winds and lightning around the Houston area, said the news report.

No major damage or human loss was reported in the city, said the news report, quoting local officials.
