In a possible championship decider Ajax beat PSV 3-2 in Eindhoven to move closer towards the Dutch first division soccer title, with four match rounds remaining.

PSV were three points behind league leaders Ajax before the match and needed a win to take control in the Eredivisie. However, Ajax controlled the match from the start and created chances through forward Viktor Fischer.

Ajax took the lead in the 33rd minute when striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson found the net. Two minutes from half-time PSV came back into the match. After a mistake by Christian Eriksen PSV profited and Jeremain Lens scored.

Eriksen made up for his mistake by putting Ajax in front again after a fine solo effort in the 52nd minute. Although Ajax remained the better team, PSV managed to bounce back again. A free-kick by Dries Mertens hit the post and Lens converted the rebound.

Ajax decided the match in the 77th minute. Substitute Derk Boerrigter profited from miscommunication between PSV sub Erik Pieters and goalkeeper Boy Waterman: 2-3.

Thanks to the victory Ajax now are on 66 points from 30 matches. Vitesse, which drew 3-3 against Roda JC Kerkrade on Saturday, follow on five points, and PSV and Feyenoord are both six points behind.

"It looks very good," Ajax midfielder Eriksen told Dutch TV channel Eredivisie Live afterwards. "We now distanced ourselves from the rest, but we still have to play four finals."

Also on Sunday Feyenoord missed the chance of getting closer to their rivals after a 1-1 draw at RKC Waalwijk. Graziano Pelle opened the scoring through a penalty, but Sander Duits equalized in the 55th minute in the match between coaching brothers Ronald (Feyenoord) en Erwin (RKC) Koeman.

FC Utrecht suffered a 6-0 defeat at AZ Alkmaar. In a bizarre first half, the visitors played with nine men since the 33rd minute after red cards for Anouar Kali and Jan Wuytens. They also conceded two penalties, a hattrick by Jozy Altidore and defender Mike van der Hoorn scored an own goal. In the second half AZ added two more goals via Markus Henriksen and Aron Johannsson.

Utrecht are in sixth place, three points behind number five FC Twente, which beat ADO Den Haag 3-1 on Saturday. AZ moved up to the 13th position.
