US military helicopter crashes in S. Korea

A U.S. military helicopter crashed in South Korea's northern province of Kangwon, the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) said Tuesday. "Today, a Marine CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter executed a hard landing near Jipo-ri Range while conducting routine flight operations in support of exercise Ssang Yong, a Korean Marine Exchange Program and part of the Foal Eagle exercise,"the USFK said in an e-mailed statement.

A total of 21 personnel on board before the crash, including five crew members, were transported to 121 Hospital in Seoul. Fifteen have been released from the hospital and the other six were in stable condition.

The crew is from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit stationed in Okinawa, Japan, according to the statement.
