Cuban former president and Revolution historical leader Fidel Castro held a "fraternal meeting" on Saturday afternoon with the Argentine former soccer star Diego Armando Maradona, the official daily Granma reported Monday.

The dialogue between Castro, 86, and the Argentine former soccer player was a "lively and fruitful exchange" between two old friends, the daily said.

Maradona arrived in Havana on Friday night from Caracas, Venezuela, where he paid tribute to the late leader Hugo Chavez, and met with acting President Nicolas Maduro.

Fidel Castro ruled Cuban for 48 years and retired in 2006 due to a very serious health crisis.
