Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman on Wednesday dismissed the recent statement by the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations about the Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile programs, Press TV reported.

"Iran's ballistic missile program is in line with the country's defense doctrine which is legitimately defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran and does not pose a threat to any country," Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted as saying.

Mehmanparast stressed that the nuclear activities of the Islamic republic have been under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The West and Israel suspect that the Iranian nuclear program, which the officials of the Islamic republic insist is "peaceful," may have military dimensions.

In a statement issued in London last week, G8 foreign ministers expressed "deep concern" regarding Iran's continuing nuclear and ballistic missile activities "in violation of numerous UN Security Council and IAEA Board of Governors resolutions."

They noted that the positions of the EU3+3 countries (France, Britain and Germany (from the EU), plus the United States, Russia and China) and Iran remain far apart and called on Iran to engage "urgently, actively and constructively" in the diplomatic process.
