IMF head to be summoned by court over Tapie probe in May
International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde will be summoned by a French court in late May as part of the investigation into an alleged corruption relating to a controversial arbitration of the Tapie case, French daily Le Figaro reported Thursday.
Lagarde is the target of the investigation for "complicity in forgery and embezzlement of public funds," she decided in 2008 to use arbitration to settle a dispute between Tycoon Bernard Tapie and Credit Lyonnais on the acquisition of Adidas when she was France's finance minister under Nicolas Sarkozy's administration.
However, the IMF chief denied any wrongdoing for approving the 400-million-dollar payout to Tapie.
Le Figaro said the announcement of Lagarde's summon in May by her lawyer confirmed the information provided by Mediapart website on Wednesday night.
Last month, French police searched Lagarde's home in Paris as a primary probe.
