Exactly two months after their kidnapping, the seven French hostages who were abducted on Feb. 19 at Dabanga, a locality in northern Cameroon near the Nigerian border, were on Thursday night released to the Cameroonian authorities.

The revelations were made through a presidential statement that was read early on Friday morning on the Cameroonian governmental radio (CRTV).

"The President of the Republic, Paul Biya, would like to inform the country and the international community that the seven French hostages abducted on February 19 at Dabanga were handed over to the Cameroonian authorities last night," said the statement which was read by the secretary general in the office of the president Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
