HK stocks end 0.14 pct higher
Hong Kong stocks rose 30.80 points, or 0.14 percent, to close at 22,044.37 on Monday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,131.65 and 21, 956.53. Turnover totaled 53.70 billion HK dollars (about 6.92 billion U.S. dollars)
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 3.43 points, or 0.03 percent, to close at 10,590.75.
Three of the four sub-indices gained ground, with the Utilities sub-indice rising the most by 1.34 percent, followed by the Commerce & Industry at 0.52 percent, the Properties at 0.42 percent, while the Finance shed 0.35 percent.
Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, fell 0.12 percent to 81 HK dollars. Its local unit Hang Seng Bank closed 0.16 percent higher at 125 HK dollars. Bank of East Asia, another Hong Kong's major bank, closed down 0.5 percent at 30 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX dipped 0.08 percent at 128.30 HK dollars.
Local developers closed mixed. Hang Lung Properties dropped 1. 49 percent at 29.80 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong, increased 1.34 percent to 56.80 HK dollars. Sun Hung Kai Properties rose 1.89 percent at 113 HK dollars. Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, closed up 0.26 percent to 116.80 HK dollars.
Mainland-based financial stocks ended lower. China Construction Bank fell 0.32 percent at 6.22 HK dollars. ICBC lost 0.19 percent at 5.25 HK dollars. Bank of China lowered 0.57 percent to 3.50 HK dollars. Bank of Communications fell 0.85 percent at 5.83 HK dollars.
As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec lost 0.24 percent at 8.48 HK dollars. PetroChina ended up 0.53 percent at 9. 52 HK dollars. CNOOC ended down 0.43 percent at 13.86 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.76 HK dollars)
