Amanda Ndiki, an ambassador for Miss Earth South Africa, agreed to this. "Our communities are doing so much to destroy what our mother earth has given us. It's everybody's duty to restore the earth to its original form," said she.

"Little things that we do to the environment have resulted in drastic climate change. For every tree destroyed, five should be planted. We need to consider the future effects of our actions," the 23-year-old environmentalist said.

Other South African celebrities joined the rest of the world in calling for more practical solutions to the conservation of the natural environment on Monday.

Nambitha Mpumulwana, a renowned South African actress, called for more support to be given to organizations like Miss Earth South Africa.

"I grew up in a farm, and all I ate came from the soil. Make your small contribution by planting vegetables or even a flower. Learn to appreciate the soil that nourishes all of us," she said.

Mpumulwana condemned increasing incidents of the endangered animal rhino poaching in South Africa ,calling for the international cooperation to curb it. "Killing a rhino for just a horn is not fair and should stop," she said.

Catherine Constantinides, director at Miss Earth South Africa, had a special message for the fast growing economies in the world. "They should think of ways of making money with preserving natural resources. They should strive to become great nations without destroying the natural heritage," said the director.

"These countries should become carbon conscious consumers. If we do not save the environment now, in a several-hundred-year time there won't be any earth left to do business in," Constantinides said.
