6.2 magnitude earthquake hits Pakistan
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of east, north and northwest Pakistan on Wednesday afternoon, local official said.
The tremor that lasted for about 35 seconds struck the country' s capital of Islamabad, eastern Punjab, and northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, at about 2:27 p.m. (local time).
The epicenter was located in the mountainous southeast Afghanistan at a depth of 71 km.
No loss of life or property has been reported yet.
Zahid Rafique, director of seismic center of Pakistan, said that the earthquake is likely to be followed by moderate aftershocks of four to five magnitude.
The earthquake created panic among the people who ran out of their houses.
This is the second earthquake measuring over 6 on the Richter scale over the last eight days in the country.
On April 16, at least 40 people were killed, 200 others injured and over 1,000 houses were leveled to ground in Pakistan when a 7. 9 magnitude earthquake hit Iranian areas bordering Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province.
