Indian medical students chose to study in China
Chinese-trained medical staff are becoming increasingly popular in Indian markets, according to reports from Indian Express, and many Indian medical students are choosing to study in China to save money.
The current number of Chinese medical colleges that accept Indian students has increased to 50, more than doubling the previous number of colleges in 2007 to 2008, with an average annual enrollment of 150 each college. China has become an attractive option for Indians to pursue medicine study overseas due to its relatively low costs and English-teaching environment.
A large majority of students preparing the Medical Council of India (MCI) screening test have medical degrees from China, according to the Indian Health Ministry. Overseas medical graduates are required to pass the MCI screening test before they are allowed to practice medicine in India, and a growing number of Chinese colleges now offer specialized trained based on the MCI syllabus.
China Tianjin Medical University, which boasts a 72 percent passing rate on the MCI screening test, is very popular with Indian students. D N Trivedy of Growell Consultancy, acting as a facilitator for the university, told the Indian Express the following: “I have been sending students to Tianjin since 2003. From 2005 onwards, approximately 150 Indian students have joined the university every year. The total cost with tuition fees, hostel and other living expenses for the four-and-a-half-year course plus a yearlong internship is about Rs 22.5 lakh ($41,386).”
