Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi can continue to sell some of its handsets in India until January 8, 2015, as the Delhi High Court on Tuesday partially lifted a ban it ordered a week earlier.

The court permitted Xiaomi to sell Qualcomm-powered smartphones in India, The Hindu reports. That means Xiaomi can temporarily resume sales of its Redmi 1S devices, but not the Redmi Note, which uses MediaTek chipsets.

On December 8, the Delhi High Court ordered Xiaomi to suspend its sales in India after Swedish telecom firm Ericsson filed a complaint over patent infringement.

Xiaomi has argued that some of its handsets are powered by Qualcomm which has a license to use Ericsson patents.

Xiaomi is the largest smartphone maker in China, and the third largest in the world, following only Samsung and Apple.

India is the primary overseas market for Xiaomi.

A court hearing involving both Xiaomi and Ericsson is set for February 5.
