The South African government on Wednesday reiterated its support for regional and international efforts to address the scourge of terrorism in all its forms.

The government made the statement following two separate terror attacks in Pakistan and Australia.

The attack in Pakistan was reported to have claimed the lives of over 130 people, mostly children, while the attack in Australia left two civilians dead.

The South African government condemns the attacks in the strongest possible terms, said Clayson Monyela, spokesperson of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

"Deliberate attacks against schools and denying children the right to an education are contraventions of well-established international human rights and humanitarian law and constitute a crime against humanity," Monyela said.

In this regard, the South African government reiterates its stance that terrorism in any form and from whichever quarter cannot be condoned, Monyela said.

"South Africa stands firmly with the international community in condemning all terrorism, and these acts in particular," he said.

Only a week ago, three South African civilians died in Afghanistan and Yemen as a result of terror.

"It is therefore with a sense of solidarity that the South African government and its people saw the situation coming to an end, albeit with the death of two innocent civilians," Monyela said in reference to the hostage taking in Sidney, Australia.
