EU court removes Hamas from terror blacklist

The general court of the European union   (EU) court on Wednesday ruled the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas should be removed from the EU's terror blacklist, saying the contested measures to include it was based not on confirmed acts but "derived from the press and internet".

However, the General Court says those measures including freezing Hamas' funds could still be maintained temporarily for three months to give time for future review or possible appeals.

Hamas was included in the EU's terrorism blacklist since December of 2001 and its funds were frozen by EU member states since then.

The Court stresses that those annulments do not imply any substantive assessment of the question of the classification of Hamas as a terrorist group within the meaning of the Common Position.
