Armed men suspected to be members of the deadly Boko Haram group have killed 32 people and abducted 185 others in Gumsuri village of northeast Nigeria's Borno State, security source and witnesses told Xinhua Thursday.

Among those abducted were married women, girls and children, a security source who declined to be named told Xinhua via phone.

The village head and leader of the youth vigilante, also known as civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), were also killed by the attackers who invaded the village on Sunday.

Several civilian JTF were injured while attempting to repel the invasion, the source said.

A military source added that the Boko Haram insurgents raided Gumsuri, a few kilometers from Chibok where over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped eight months ago.

"The insurgents fired several shots and threw explosives into people's houses which make the people to run out," Hassan Wakama, a Damboa resident who claimed to have visited the town on Tuesday told Xinhua on phone.

They then gathered the people, including women, children and teenagers into two of the hilux vehicles they came with before they escaped with them before day break, Wakama added.

According to him, the attack occurred last weekend but was not known because of the remoteness of the area and poor telecommunication.
