Xi receives highest rating among world leaders

Chinese President Xi Jinping is the highest rated world leader in several categories, according to a survey published by Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation.

In the survey, over 26,000 respondents from 30 countries, including China, were asked to identify and evaluate the performance of 10 of the most widely recognized global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and U.S. President Barack Obama.

Xi topped ratings of both home and abroad.

Chinese respondents showed the highest confidence in regards to how their leader handled domestic and international affairs, and over 93 percent of them claimed to pay attention to President Xi.

In terms of domestic rating that respondents gave to their own leaders, Xi was the highest rated leader scoring a nine out of 10 rating, and Russia's Putin and India's Modi tied for the second with a score of 8.7.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe and US president Barack Obama received a middle score of 6.2 and 6.0, while UK's Prime Minister David Cameron and French president Fran?ois Hollande were at the bottom with 5.5 and 4.8.

Xi is also highly thought of in Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe.

In terms of the rating for view of performance from abroad, Xi also topped the list with a score of 7.5, followed by Modi 7.3 and Merkel 7.2, while Abe (6.1), and Putin (6.0) was at the bottom.

The survey also shows respondents in India (87.8 percent), Russia (79.6 percent), and China (78.6 percent) overwhelmingly said that their home country was moving in the right direction, while only a minority in the United States (44.8 percent), Japan (30.4 percent), and South Africa (29.3 percent) felt their nation was making progress.
