Thanks to a second-half goal from Michy Batshuayi in his first start for Marseille, the Ligue 1 leaders beat Lille 2-1 on Sunday to end the year on top before winter break.

Batshuayi, who made Marcelo Bielsa's starting lineup after Dimitri Payet was dropped for an alleged lack of effort in training, scored on 69th minute when the Belgian striker right footed to beat the visiters' goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

Marseille, last crowned in Ligue 1 in 2010, opened scoring in the 32nd minute with an own goal from Lille striker Nolan Roux before Idrissa Gueye levelled it with a shot from the edge of the box.

With the victory, Argentine coach Bielsa's side wrapped up the first half of 2014-2015 season on top, two points clear of Lyon, who leapfrog Paris Saint-Germain to the second with a 5-0 triumph over 10-man Bordeaux late on Sunday.

Alexandre Lacazette continued his incredible form to score twice for Lyon, making it 17 goals in 19 games on top of the Ligue 1 scorers' rankings.

The PSG, which drew 0-0 against Montpellier on Saturday, dropped points at home and have to settle for the third spot with three points off the pace, before the first division soccer league resumes on Jan. 9.

Saint-Etienne moved to within five points of the summit after cruising to a 3-0 victory against Evian, who replaced Metz in the relegation zone after losing seven of their nine away league matches this season.

With the win, St-Etienne move to fourth place with 36 points, four clear of Monaco, who nipped a 1-0 victory on Saturday away to Metz.
