The UN Security Council will meet on Monday afternoon on the issue of DPRK's human rights.

The 3 pm meeting is in connection with a letter dated Dec. 5, 2014 addressed to the president of the Security Council.

"We the undersigned members of the Security Council -- Australia, Chile, France, Jordan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Republic of Korea, Rwanda, the United Kingdom and the United States -- are deeply concerned about the situation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea," said the letter.

"Therefore, we write to request that the situation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea be formally placed on the Council's agenda without prejudice to the item on non- proliferation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea," said the letter.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Qin Gang said "the Chinese side always maintains that differences in the field of human rights should be resolved through constructive dialogue and cooperation between countries."

Answering relevant questions at a regular press conference on Dec. 19, Qin said "we are opposed to the act of politicizing the human rights issue or exerting pressure on others under the pretext of human rights."

"The Security Council is not a proper venue to discuss the human rights issue. To bring the issue to the International Criminal Court will not help solve the problem," he added.
