The first green building conference of Macedonia kicks off in Skopje on Monday.

The conference aims at promoting green actions and leading new trends in construction sector, Macedonian International Agency reported.

The introduction of the new practices and technologies of green building will help mitigate the impact of environment on human health and nature, Macedonian Green Building Council said at the conference.

To address the concerns over the rise of construction cost, Daniela Arsovska, president of Macedonian union   of Chambers of Commerce said the beneficiaries will win their money back when they live in or operate the buildings.

The cost may rise by 1 to 5 percent, but the owners will find the annual energy and water consumption will be reduced by 30 to 40 percent, respectively, Arsovska said.

Green building, also known as sustainable building, refers to structures featuring efficiency use of resources. It runs through a building's life-cycle from sitting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and demolition.

Macedonian Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski said at the conference changes to the Law on Construction will be introduced next month, which would include impetus for implementing green building practices.
