China-Japan ties conform to interests of both countries
Long-term, stable and sound development of China-Japan relations conform to the fundamental interests of both countries, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
Spokeswoman Hua Chunying made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on Shinzo Abe's re-election as Japan's prime minister.
"We have taken note that Japan will set up a new cabinet," she said, adding China will deal with relevant issues according to diplomatic protocol.
President of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Shinzo Abe was re-elected as the country's prime minister. He will form a new cabinet on a later date.
Abe vowed after the general election that he and his LDP will try to gain more public support so as to amend the country's war-renouncing Constitution and fulfill the legislation related to the controversial right to collective self-defense.
China has always advocated developing bilateral relations on the basis of the four China-Japan political documents, and in the spirit of drawing lessons from history and facing up to the future, said Hua.
China hopes the Japanese side will cooperate to seriously implement the newly reached four-point agreement and continue to make efforts to improve bilateral ties, she said.
China and Japan reached a four-point agreement to improve bilateral ties on Nov. 7, agreeing to resume political, diplomatic and security dialogue while acknowledging different positions on the Diaoyu Islands.
Hua also expressed hope that Japan will continue to follow the road of peaceful development and play a constructive role in promoting peace, stability and development in the region.
