DPRK returns one South Korean after illegal entrance
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday returned one South Korean man, who illegally entered the DPRK last month, Seoul's unification ministry said.
The 52-year-old, identified only by his surname Ma, was sent back to South Korea at about 10:10 a.m. through the truce village of Panmunjom, the ministry's deputy spokeswomen Park Soo-jin told a press briefing.
The government will conduct medical check-ups for him and seek to confirm how and why he entered the DPRK, Park said.
The DPRK persuaded Ma, who entered the country in late November, to return to South Korea where his parents are living in a humanitarian move, the DPRK's KCNA news agency reported on Dec. 24.
Ma confirmed his illegal entry into the DPRK, saying that he was considered insane in South Korea and his liberty was restrained, according to the KCNA report.
