Iran says unfair sanctions futile to final nuclear solution

West's sanctions as a leverage to exert pressure on other nations are "unlawful and cruel," Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said on Saturday.

"We should not let the western countries make use of sanctions as a tool to pile up pressure on other countries," Zarif said in a meeting with his Belorussian counterpart in Tehran, according to Tasnim news agency.

"The countries that are slapped by the unlawful and cruel sanctions need to keep moving by relying on their own capabilities," he said.

With reference to the nuclear talks between Iran and major world powers, he explained that the negotiations will bear fruit only if the western parties come to an understanding that "the unfair sanctions, which go counter to the international regulations, do not amount to a great achievement for them."

Belorussian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei voiced Minsk's support for Tehran's right to enjoy nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, as for the report.

Belarus believes that the Iranian negotiators handle the nuclear talks with six world powers "wisely and in a prudent manner," he added.

In a open letter to his counterparts on Wednesday, Zarif said, "We have clearly demonstrated that we are prepared to accept a rational and fair agreement based on mutual respect and interest, in the same manner as we resist and reject arbitrary, degrading and unlawful demands."

To reach a mutually-agreed long term comprehensive solution, Iran is ready to prove that its nuclear program will be "exclusively peaceful" and in return all UN Security Council sanctions, as well as multilateral and national sanctions by the West, should be lifted, he said in his letter.

The latest round of high-level talks between Iran and the world powers ended on Nov. 24, 2014 deadline in the Austrian capital of Vienna without a comprehensive agreement.

All sides agreed to extend the deadline of the talks by another seven months.
