Nowitzki ranks 8th place on NBA scoring list

German power forward Dirk Nowitzki scored 14 points in the Dallas Mavericks' 102-98 win over LA Lakers on Friday, passing Elvin Hayes to rank eighth on the NBA all-time scoring list.

Joining NBA in 1968, Hayes collected 27,313 points in his 16-year-career while Nowitzki has now scored 27,322 with the 14 points grabbed in Friday's game.

The 36-year-old Nowitzki, who has been playing for his 17th season in NBA, is the league's highest-scoring player born outside the U.S. after he passed Hakeem Olajuwon for the ninth place in November.
