If you are an IE user and think as a modern web browser it really needs to renovate itself to retain your loyalty, Microsoft is with you.

The company is developing a brand-new browser to replace IE, according to ZDNet.com.

Citing sources close to Microsoft, ZDNet.com reports that the new browser, code-named Spartan, will be a "light-weight" browser that looks and feels more like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox than IE.

The browser will still use the IE layout engine Trident, and the hardware-accelerated JavaScript engine Chakra, which was developed for IE9. But like Chrome and Firefox, it will support extensions, and will be available for both PC and mobile users.

Spartan will be featured in the upcoming Windows 10 operating system, due out in early fall of 2015.

The desktop version of Windows 10 will ship both Spartan and IE11. The latter will be there for "backward-compatibility's sake", according to ZDNet.com.

Microsoft is planning to detail consumer features of Windows 10 at an event on January 21. But Spartan might not be functional enough for inclusion in the test builds at that time.

IE has been losing its fandom in recent years, following the growing popularity of Chrome, Firefox and Apple's Safari. There was a time when IE handled about over 90 percent of all web traffic on desktop and laptop machines, according to Wired.com citing research outfit Net Applications, but its share now has dropped to 58 percent.
