UN chief offers condolences to AirAsia victims' families
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday expressed deep condolences to families of victims in the tragedy involving the crash of an AirAsia jetliner.
A statement issued here by his spokesperson said Ban has followed closely the developments of the downed AirAsia flight QZ8501.
"He conveys his sincerest condolences to the families of the 162 crew members and passengers on board and to the governments and peoples of their countries of origin, particularly Indonesia, which suffered the greatest loss," it said.
Ban also thanked those governments that joined in the search for the missing plane for their efficient response.
The jet flight QZ8501, which is destined for Singapore, vanished from the radar screen 42 minutes after taking off from Surabaya, Indonesia, Sunday.
The Airbus 320-200 carried 162 people, including 155 Indonesians, three nationals of the Republic of Korea, and one person from Malaysia, Singapore, Britain and France each.
