The first identified victim of the crashed AirAsia plane has been laid to rest in Surabaya, Indonesia.

Officials earlier identified the remains as belonging to a female flight attendant called Hayati Lutfiah Hamid.

Police say the identity of the 49-year-old was confirmed using fingerprints and other means. Her body was handed over to family members in a brief ceremony at a police hospital in Surabaya.

Also on Thursday, rescuers recovered two more bodies, bringing the total count to nine after five days. Bad weather has continued to hamper the search for the plane and other victims.

Bambang Soelistyo is the head of the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency.

"Right now the main tool that we need is a device that can detect metals underwater, which would alert us to the position of the fuselage." He says equipment is to be deployed to the crash site on Friday.

The authorities are still trying to find the plane's black boxes.

The Airbus A320 came down on Sunday en route from Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board. No survivors have been found and the cause of the crash remains unknown.
