S. Australia bushfire destroys dozens of houses
Blazing fires have been rampage in parts of South Australia (SA) since Friday, producing heavy smoke and bringing down dozens of houses by Saturday.
The state's Country Fire Service (CFS) has issued emergency warnings for more than 30 places while preparing for bushfire burning into next week.
More than 500 firefighters in SA have been involved in battling the bushfire near Sampson Flat in Adelaide Hill area, northeast to the city of Adelaide, capital of South Australia, Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) reported on Saturday.
CFS chief officer Greg Nettleton said that the bushfire has been out of control and burned through more than 10,000 hectares of land in the area.
Roads have been blocked to the hard-hit township of Sampson. Heavy smokes could be seen in downtown Adelaide, some 20 km away.
Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported that several firefighters have been injured in what believed to be South Australia's worst bushfire since the 1983 Ash Wednesday blaze, when 47 people died in Victoria and 28 died in South Australia.
Victoria has also been suffering in the current bushfire when the country fire department issued more than 10 warnings and a total fire ban on many high risk areas.
Meanwhile, Western Australia is expected to experience hot, dry and windy conditions. Fire crews are preparing for another severe fire danger day in central coastal areas and parts of the Pilbara in Western Australia, AAP said.
