Storm Svea wreaks havoc in Sweden
Hundreds of households have been left without power as storm Svea battered western and southern Sweden on Thursday and Friday, local media reported on Friday.
Trains have also been cancelled in some of the affected regions and bridges closed to traffic as winds reaches speed of up to 27 metres per second (97 kilometres per hour), Swedish media reports.
"At the moment, some of our customers along the west coast are without power," Jonatan Bjorck, spokesperson for electricity company Fortum, told national daily newspaper Svenska Dagbladet on Friday.
Wind gusts of up to 97 kilometres per hour forced the closure of a large bridge outside the regional city of Uddevalla om the west coast.
Meanwhile, traffic speed was limited to 50 kilometres per hour across Oresundsbron that connects Sweden and Denmark.
"It is during the start of the day that it is most windy. During the late afternoon and evening, winds will slow down somewhat, but along the coast it could still be quite windy during the evening and night," Lovisa Andersson, meteorologist with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, told news agency TT.
The institute has issued class 1 and class 2 storm warnings for large parts of Sweden. Class 2 means trees could be uprooted, tiles could be blown off roofs and power supply could be cut off.
The storm is expected to be over completely by Sunday.
