Iran has condemned a deadly car bomb attack outside a police college in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, which claimed the lives of dozens, Press TV reported late Thursday.

"At a time when Yemen needs peace and stability more than ever, the enemies of the country plan to achieve their sinister goals by (conducting) blind acts of terrorism and causing insecurity and instability," an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

She expressed hope that the Yemeni people, parties, groups and political and social movements join forces to establish peace and stability in the country.

At least 37 people were killed and dozens of others wounded early on Wednesday when a car bomb exploded outside the police academy in Sanaa. The victims were Interior Ministry soldiers seeking to join the police academy to get a promotion.

It's the most deadly attack in Sanaa since Oct. 9, 2014, when an al-Qaida suicide bomber blew himself up at a gathering of the Shiite Houthi group, killing at least 47 people.

No group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's bombing attack, but such attacks are always carried out by al-Qaida militants, according to Interior Ministry officials.
