Warm weather will help keep skies clear
The warmer, if slightly wet, weather expected for the coming days will help to keep the city's air relatively clear, forecasters said yesterday.
The situation won't last too long, however, as northerly winds later in the week will bring with them a new cloud of pollutants.
A high of 10 degrees Celsius is likely today, rising to 12 degrees tomorrow and Thursday. Rain is also expected later today, so commuters are advised to carry an umbrella.
While the showers should start to taper out tomorrow afternoon, dark clouds and further downpours are possible through Thursday night and on Friday.
The mercury on Friday will likely fluctuate between 6 and 11 degrees, forecasters said.
By Saturday the rain should have gone completely, to be replaced with a dip in temperature of about 2 degrees.
Yesterday's air quality was officially deemed “perfect,” with the air quality index below 40 for the whole day and the PM2.5 concentration under 40 micrograms per cubic meter.
As of 8pm, the AQI stood at 27 and the PM2.5 at 16 micrograms, 9 below the World Health Organization's recommended safe level.
Today's air quality is expected to be “perfect” or “good,” the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said.
