3 soldiers killed in suicide attack in Libya's Benghazi

At least three soldiers were killed and four others injured on Tuesday in a suicide attack in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi, a military officer said.

A suicide bomber, who was driving his car, blew himself up at an army check point in western Benghazi, said an officer of al-Jawareh battalion of the Libyan army's special forces.

The check point is the most important one along the road linking Benghazi and the city of Ajdabiya, 160 km west of Benghazi, the official added.

The commander of al-Jawareh battalion, Mohammed Dawood Al-Gabsi, was injured about a month ago and his brother, also a soldier, was killed in the fight against militant groups in Benghazi.

Benghazi, the birthplace of the 2011 protests that toppled Libya's former leader Muammar Gaddafi, has since witnessed a drastic escalation of violence.

The city is now plagued by suicide attacks, assassinations, kidnappings and deadly clashes between different armed groups.
