Sleet and snow swept parts of Northern Ireland and Wales Tuesday, forcing the suspension of traffic and closure of schools, according to media reports.

Driving conditions in the northwestern part of Northern Ireland have become difficult due to heavy snow. Some roads were closed and bus services disrupted, the British Broadcasting Coporation (BBC) reported.

Local police have advised people to avoid driving to the Scraghey Road in Castlederg, a village in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, because of snow. And some flights from City of Derry Airport experienced "minor" delays on Tuesday, according to the reports.

Two schools in Strabane, a town in west County Tyrone, have been closed due to bad weather.

Meanwhile, 13 schools in Ceredigion and Powys, two counties in central Wales, were closed on Tuesday because of adverse weather.

The Met Office, the United Kingdom's national weather service, on Tuesday issued a yellow warning of snow and ice in Wales. It forecasts showers of hail, sleet and snow on Tuesday evening and overnight, which are likely to leave a covering of snow of 3 to 6cm.

The office advised the public be aware of the risk of tricky driving conditions.
