Volkswagen sales in China sees double-digit growth

Volkswagen has announced its China sales increased by double-digits this past year, despite an overall slowdown in the Chinese auto market.

The company sold 3.6 million vehicles in both the mainland and Hong Kong last year, up over 12-percent year on year.

Overall vehicle sales in China increased just under 7-percent last year.

Sales of Volkswagen's premium brand, Audi, increased nearly 18 percent.

The sales increase comes despite a number of its dealers coming under boycotts and protests in certain cities by Volkswagen customers this past year because of concerns about defective vehicle parts.

Volkswagen has since put into production an auto parts manufacturing plant in Tianjin.
