After more than two weeks of joint operation to search debris and bodies from the crashed AirAsia plane, its fuselage was detected at the bottom of Java Sea on Wednesday by the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) from a Singaporean navy ship.

Indonesia National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Chairman FHB Soelistyo confirmed that the plane fuselage was found 3 kilometers away from the location of the tail section.

"The fuselage was found with one wing still attached," Soelistyo said in his office.

He added that the image of the AirAsia plane's fuselage was confirmed after analyzing results of footage taken by ROV from Singapore's rescue ship.

The bodies of the majority of the passengers on the doomed AirAsia flight QZ8501 were believed to remain trapped inside the fuselage, and might still be seat-belted as the crash occurred in a stormy weather.

The fuselage was found 28 meters below the sea surface and 800 meters from where the flight data recorder (FDR) was retrieved, Soelistyo said.

The plane's tail part, FDR and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) have all been retrieved so far.

The latter two devices that store information useful for the crash investigation are now kept by Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC).

The search for remaining bodies is also the focus of the international operation, according to the search head.

"All ships, including those from foreign countries would be engaged with the task of searching bodies below the sea surface," he said, adding that all bodies should be found and handed over to their families no matter how their conditions are.

As of the 18th day, the international search team has plucked a total of 50 bodies from crashed AirAsia flight QZ8501 that went missing on Dec. 28 on its way from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore. It had 162 people onboard.

Soelistyo said that the joint operation would be concluded " within the next three to four days" and further search would be carried out by BASARNAS and assisted by domestic and foreign volunteers.
