Singapore navy locates fuselage of crashed AirAsia jet

A Singapore navy ship has located the fuselage of the crashed AirAsia QZ8501 with 162 people on board, Singapore's defense chief said Wednesday.

Chief of Navy RADM Lai Chung Han said that one of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)'s ships, the MV Swift Rescue, has located the fuselage of the AirAsia plane in the Java Sea, Singapore's Defense Minister Ng Eng Hen said in a Facebook post.

Images taken by the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) show part of the wing and words on the fuselage, he said.

The defense minister said that the Singporean navy have informed BASARNAS, the Indonesian search authority, who can now begin recovery operations, adding that he hoped that with the fuselage located, some form of closure can come to the families of the victims to ease their grief.
