Kuwait grants Lebanon $19 million for Syrian refugees
Lebanon and Kuwait signed Thursday a grant agreement amounting 27 million U.S. dollars and another loan agreement amounting 19 million U.S. dollars to be used in Lebanese development projects and areas hosting the Syrian refugees.
Lebanon's Prime Minister Tammam Salam on Thursday afternoon met with the Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) Abdulwahab al-Bader at the Grand Serail, where they also discussed development projects undertaken by the KFAED in Lebanon.
According to the latest United Nations Higher Commission for Refugees, Lebanon hosts more than 1.2 million Syrian refugees, representing almost one quarter of the country's population.
The total loans provided by the KFAED to Lebanon amounts to more than 717 million dollars, while Kuwait also granted Lebanon around 39 million dollars that were used to finance various development projects, including training of governmental employees.
