Li Na announces pregnancy at Australian Open

Retired Chinese tennis champion Li Na announced her pregnancy at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia on Jan. 19, 2015.

Her full announcement was soon posted to her account on Weibo (China's equivalent to Twitter). The former champion said, "I chose here (the Rod Laver Arena) to share a secret I had kept for months with the fans and the friends from all over the world who support me and really care about me. Jiang Shan and I are expecting our first child to be born this summer."

In her announcement, Li recalled her extraordinary experience in the Rod Laver Arena last year when she won the women's singles title in the Australian Open.

Li has been working as an ambassador for the promotion of the Australian Open this year. She said she would stay in Australia with her husband for a few days after the close of the tournament to "enjoy the special moment" of being parents-to-be for the first time in their lives.
