US to allocate 75 mln USD for Ukraine's security
The U.S. Congress has decided to provide an additional 75 million U.S. dollars for Ukraine to boost its security capabilities, the United States Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt said Tuesday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Kiev patrol officers' coordination center, Pyatt said the funds would be allocated as part of the European Reassurance Initiative.
The ambassador emphasized that the U.S. has offered only non- lethal assistance to Ukraine to enhance its defense capabilities.
Pyatt also stressed that the implementation of army reform is more important for Ukraine to boost its security than aid in the form of armament.
According to Pyatt, the U.S. has already provided 119 million dollars in non-lethal aid for Ukraine's defense sector since the start of the conflict between government troops and independence- seeking insurgents in eastern regions last April, which has killed over 4,800 people.
