A British jihadist who had faked his own death before returning home from Syria has admitted to multiple terror offences, local media reported Tuesday, citing court sources.

Imran Khawaja, a 27-year-old from west London, reportedly spent six months in Syria and attended a training camp there.

In June of last year, he was reported to have died fighting in the civil war in Syria, but was stopped days later in Dover by British police when he tried to return to Britain.

Police believed Khawaja deliberately faked his death in order to cheat his way back to Britain.

He admitted to preparing for acts of terrorism, attending a camp, receiving training and possessing firearms in a court hearing last year, according to a BBC report.

Details of the court hearing had been barred from publication for legal reasons, but the ban was lifted Tuesday to allow some media coverage of the case.

Khawaja is due to be sentenced later this year.
