Jordan stressed Sunday that it spared no effort to secure the release of Japanese hostage Kenji Goto who was beheaded by the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

Jordan was constantly coordinating with the Japanese government in this regard, Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said in a statement aired by the state-run Petra news agency.

The IS, he said, rejected all attempts and efforts to release the Japanese hostage, which proves its insistence to use methods of killing and terrorism.

The minister added that Jordan with its all institutions will continue efforts to get a proof of life for the Jordanian pilot held captive by the IS and secure his release.

The IS claimed in a video posted online late Saturday that it had killed a second Japanese hostage, Kenji Goto.

The video showed a hooded man stood over Goto, and held a knife to his throat. The following footage showed a head placed on a body.

The Japanese government said on Sunday that the authenticity of the video was "highly probable."
