Li Hejun, chairman and CEO of Hanergy Holdings, has become the richest man in China's mainland with a fortune of US$26 billion, according to Hurun Report published by the Hurun Research Institute on Tuesday.

With his wealth nearly tripling from a year ago, his global ranking jumped 108 notches to number 28, the list showed.

Ma took the first spot on the ranking last year after Alibaba completed the world's biggest IPO with its US$25 billion listing on the New York Stock Exchange in September.

This year, he ranked third with a fortune of US$24.5 billion, behind Li and property magnate Wang Jianlin, owner of Wanda Group whose net worth was estimated at US$25 billion.

Li's Hanergy Group was established in 1994 and headquartered in Beijing. Hanergy is engaged in hydropower, wind power and solar energy industries.

Bill Gates, co-founder of U.S. technology giant Microsoft, remained the world's richest person on the Hurun global list with a net worth of US$85 billion, followed by Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim (US$83 billion) and American investment guru Warren Buffett (US$76 billion), the list said.
