Jordan executed two al-Qaida prisoners before dawn Wednesday, including Sajida al-Rishawi, the female would-be suicide bomber, whose release the Islamic State group (IS) had previously requested in exchange for captured Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasaesbeh and Japanese freelance reporter Kenji Goto, according to local TV.

The other put to death was Ziad al-Karbouly, a former top aide to the deceased leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

The executions came a day after IS claimed that it has burnt the pilot to death in the third high-profile case of hostage-killing by the group recently.

Both of the previous two victims were Japanese nationals captured by the group in Syria.

IS claimed in a video released Saturday that it had killed 47-year-old Goto, after previously murdering another Japanese hostage, Haruna Yukawa.

The group had initially demanded a US$200 million (175 million euro) ransom for the Japanese hostages -- the same amount Tokyo had promised in non-military aid to countries affected by IS.
