Iran dismisses WSJ report on top leader's response to Obama letter
Iran's Foreign Ministry on Sunday dismissed a media report claiming Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ever responded to a letter from U.S. President Barack Obama over joint efforts against the Islamic State (IS) militants, Press TV reported.
"This claim by the American newspaper, Wall Street Journal, is an unprofessional media ploy," Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Sunday.
The Wall Street Journal on Friday quoted an unnamed Iranian diplomat as saying that Khamenei wrote a secret letter in response to an October 2014 letter sent from Obama, in which the U.S. president requested Iran's cooperation in fighting the IS.
Khamenei's letter was "respectful" but noncommittal, the diplomat was quoted as saying.
