S. Korea urges DPRK to adopt reform, dialogue
South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Monday urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to adopt reform and dialogue to walk a path of development and growth.
Park chaired this year's first meeting of the preparatory committee for reunification, and said the DPRK has not responded to Seoul's repeated dialogue offer citing various preconditions.
South Korea offered to hold high-level talks with the DPRK in January to discuss all issues of mutual concerns, but the DPRK has kept mum about it, demanding the stop of anti-DPRK leaflets and the lifting of sanctions imposed by South Korea.
Citing the remarks made by former Mongolian President Punsalmaagiyn Ochirbat, Park said that national security came from deep pockets rather than nuclear weapons. She urged Pyongyang to walk a way of reform and opening if it wants to help DPRK people eat their fill.
