Indian PM, Sri Lankan president hold talks
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena Monday held talks during which they discussed bilateral civil nuclear cooperation among other key strategic issues.
The two leaders struck an agreement on civil nuclear cooperation during the talks, said the Indian prime minister.
"The bilateral agreement on civil nuclear cooperation...It is the first such agreement which Sri Lanka has signed," said Modi after holding talks with Sirisena at the Hyderabad House here.
On his maiden foreign trip after assuming office, Sirisena, who arrived here Sunday evening on a four-day visit, also held comprehensive discussions with Modi on ways to enhance economic ties.
Modi said India and Sri Lanka are committed to "unlock the vast potential of our economic cooperation,"
He said India is pleased to be Sri Lanka's largest trading partner.
"We have expressed support for more balanced growth in both directions," he said.
