South Korea's top nuclear envoy will visit Russia next week to discuss how to resume the long-stalled six-party talks for denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday.

Hwang Joon-kook, Seoul's chief negotiator for the six-way dialogue on the Korean Peninsula's nuclear issue, will travel to Moscow for three days from Feb. 23 to meet his Russian counterpart Igor Margulov, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The senior diplomats will discuss an overall situation on the Korean Peninsula, especially how to resume the long-suspended six- party talks and how to deal with the nuclear program of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to the ministry.

During his stay, Hwang will also meet with experts in Russia on the Korean Peninsula issues to exchange opinions about the DPRK nuclear issue.

The aid-for-disarmament talks, involving South Korea, the DPRK, China, the United States, Russia and Japan, were initiated in Beijing in August 2003 but have stalled since December 2008.

Hwang's visit came after he took a trip to Japan for talks with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts in late January. He also traveled to China earlier this month for a dialogue with his Chinese counterpart.
